The real reason, Facebook is down because....

 After a number of its employees ruled out that the cause of the malfunction that hit the networking giant was cyber-attacks, Facebook revealed the reason that deprived more than 3 billion people around the world of the company's famous services.


And Facebook explained in a statement today, Tuesday, that wrong modifications in the settings were the main reason behind the malfunction that caused 3.5 billion users to be deprived for about six hours from accessing Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
It also explained, according to what Reuters reported, that "its engineering teams discovered that modifications to the main "routers" that coordinate movement between data centers caused problems that led to the communication being interrupted."

It is noteworthy that the outage of its Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp services occurred around 12:00 noon EST (1600 GMT), then services began gradually returning around 05:45 pm EST.

Second hit in hours
In addition, this resounding outage, which occurred during the past hours, constituted the second blow that Facebook faced in two days, after it faced accusations on Sunday that it repeatedly preferred profit over cracking down on hate speech and misinformation.

While its share fell 4.9 percent, its biggest daily loss since last November, amid broader selling of technology shares on Monday, with the world influx of competing applications such as Twitter and Tik Tok.

While the stock rose by about half a percentage point in post-closing trading, following the resumption of services.
